It is on Barnes & Nobles’ list of Best Books of 2024 (So Far), it is an Amazon Editor’s Pick for the month of June, and last week it was announced that TWoG is on the July/August Kids Indie Next List, a selection of recommended titles curated by the American Booksellers Association.

Y’all! I’m verklempt. I’m so grateful to everyone who has pre-ordered and spread the word about my book, everyone who has left reviews and ratings, and I am beyond thankful for all the wonderful booksellers who read an nominated my book for the Indie Next List. You are all amazing! Thank you SO MUCH for showing my little book so much support and love!

The Wilderness of Girls Pre-order Campaign

It’s time, y’all! To say THANK YOU for pre-ordering The Wilderness of Girls, we’ve got a handful of different goodies to pass out!

When you order The Wilderness of Girls from Talking Leaves or Books of Wonder, you’ll automaticall get:

  • A signed copy of the hardcover edition
  • A Wilderness-themed sticker sheet so you can proudly display your feral girl love on laptops, water bottles, and all your sticker-displaying surfaces
  • A limited edition Happy Valley Wildlife Preserve enamel pin (HVWP is where our wild girls are discovered in the book!)

How cool is that???

But what if I already pre-ordered somewhere else?

Never fear! If you’ve already pre-ordered elsewhere, you can still get in on the swag! Simply upload your proof of purchase here and you’ll receive a free limited edition Happy Valley Wildlife Preserve bandana!

Why Pre-order (besides the goodies)?

I’m glad you asked!

  • More Pre-orders = More Buzz. The higher the pre-order numbers, the bigger the publisher’s initial print run. The bigger this number gets, the more excited booksellers get, so they make sure to order more copies! And most importantly, the more copies in bookstores, the more likely it is the book will be discovered by the people who need/want to read it ♥️
  • Big Box Stores. When a book is generating buzz, bigger stores like Target and Barnes & Noble will start placing larger orders and maybe even planning special displays. Stores like this get books in front of more people, faster, and give your book a very good chance at being discovered by people who may otherwise never see it!
  • Bestseller Lists. Pre-orders all count towards first week sales, which is usually the best chance an author (especially a debut like me) has at hitting any kind of bestseller list. And as much as we authors say it doesn’t matter if we “hit the list” or not, we all want to. Plus, hitting the list does come with more visibility, adding the title of “bestselling author” to our resume (and social media bios), and generally making a whole lot of people (agents, publishers, editors, marketing & PR folks, etc) really happy!
  • Support Indie Bookstores! I’m partnering with my local independent bookstore Talking Leaves, as well as the Manhattan-based indie Books of Wonder, to offer signed copies as well as goodies that will go out with each order. Pre-order numbers help indie stores order the right amount of stock and helps mitigate risk, but also gives them a boost since many of those pre-orders will be shipping out of the area to customers they otherwise never would have had.

I hope you’ll consider pre-ordering today! And if it’s not in your budget to pre-order, that’s fine too! You can still help by requesting it from your local library.

Thanks friends!
