The Path to Publication

A 45 minute presentation that compares and contrasts the typical journey to traditional publication with my lived experience. This presentation offers practical information about how one becomes a published author, while encouraging students to pursue the things they are passionate about even if they don’t find immediate success along traditional routes.

Inspiration

A 45 minute presentation on inspiration: where to find it, how to use it, and why you don’t always need it to get the work done (in fact, in order to be a successful creator, you must learn to work whether you’re inspired or not). I will offer practical advice on cultivating an inspirational lens through which to view the world, show that inspiration is actually made up of several different brain states, and show how to achieve those same states with or without spontaneous inspiration.

The Craft

A 45 minute presentation on the craft of creative writing and how you can learn to become a better writer through reading. With enough advance notice, this presentation can be customized to a particular mentor text or element of craft.

Q&A Visits (Book Clubs and Classrooms)

I would be delighted to drop in for a free 30 minute virtual Q&A visit if you’ve recently read The Wilderness of Girls for your book club or in class.
